2022 was great, so let’s make 2023 even greater!

2022 ended on a high note for Arsenal, as the Gunners topped Brighton and Hove 4-2 on Saturday in Amex Stadium.

This was a very strong simply by Mikel Arteta’s squad, despite a couple of defensive letdowns that allowed the Seagulls to break our line and score their two goals. Beyond those two bloopers, the effort was speckled with dynamic play from Martin Odegaard, Thomas Party, and the front line of Eddie, Bukayo and Gabriel.

Arsenal ends 2022 seven points clear of Manchester City at the tope of the Premier League. As a side note, we are also thirteen points clear of Tottenam Coldspur, fifteen points clear of Liverpool, and an amazing eighteen points clear of crosstown rivals Chelsea. Seriously, did anyone in Gooner Nation have a feeling or premonition that we would be talking about these great statistics on January 2nd? I sure didn’t. I expected a run for a Champions League spot, but this season has gone beyond my wildest dreams.

January will provide another list of challenges, including matches against 3rd place Newcastle United on Tuesday, 5th place Tottenham on January 15th and a rematch against 4th place Manchester United on January 22nd,

January will also provide Arteta and Gaspar Edu with the chance to sign some new faces to the squad, which will, hopefully, add needed depth, and additional talent for the long run to the end of May. Topping that list has been Mykhailo Murdyk, Joao Felix, Dusan Vlahovic, Alexis Mac Allisster and Youri Tielemans,

Two, or even three, of these names would obviously to a positive benefit for the club. Whatever happens, I only hope they can get the deals done quickly so the new players can get acclimated to the Arteta system and their new teammates.

So, good bye to 2022, and hello to 2023. Let’s hope this year is even better than the last!

In the meantime, Happy New Year to Gooners everywhere!

Cheers.
