We can all take a collective deep breath. We have reached the World Cup break, and yes, Arsenal is on top of the Premier League table five points clear of Manchester City.
I wish I could say that knew all along the Gunners would be in this position at the break, however, I’m not sure many people did, even the club’s loyalist supporters.
We took a pool a while back and by a resounding margin people felt this long break would benefit Arsenal for the remainder of the season. Honestly, I’m on the fence about that. We have built some really good momentum, and the team is really beginning to click on all cylinders. Now, we have ten of our best players heading off to Qatar to play in a very difficult tournament, in very hot conditions, with different managers and teammates. More than injuries, I’m concerned this long break will dampen our progress and take the squad time to regroup once the club season resumes.
This could be Mikel Arteta’s biggest task.
