I (we) MUST support the hiring of Mike Arteta as Arsenal’s new manager.
Here’s why…
As much as I hate to admit Arsenal is in a rebuilding stretch, I have come to realize this club needs a young, fresh approach to lead this process. Is Mikel Arteta the right young guy to do it? Only time will answer this question, however, he does have enough football DNA to give us hope, including:
He had a solid career as a player.
He was Arsenal’s captain.
He played with Mauricio Pochettino.
He played for Arsenal Wenger.
He coached with Pep Guardiola.
Now that the manager drama seems to be resolved, what about the squad? What will Arteta be looking for?
From previous comments he has made it sounds like the new boss will demand a lot of effort. It is so obvious this Gunners squad needs to step up their performances, spirit, enthusiasm and overall commitment. If they fail to do so, look for some players to be gone in January at the earliest, summer at the latest.
The Independent reports rumblings that at least 50% of the squad want to leave Arsenal, including Aubayemang and Lacazette. That’s not exactly what we want to hear, but if they want to go, they should be allowed to go. If we are going to rebuild Arsenal it should be rebuilt from the ground up. The culture, the style, and the results have drastically diminished in recent years. More changes will happen, but for now let’s hope this reset can begin to get us back on track.
As a longtime Gooner, I must put my support behind Mikel Arteta. I must also put aside my hopes for a quick turnaround and realize this rebuild will not happen overnight. The new manager should be given our full support. The owners must give him the transfer money needed to rebuild the squad, they need to allow him the time to bring free-flowing football back to the pitch, and most importantly, all of us must show Mikel Arteta our full support and have his back!
