Happy Friday, Gooners!
The 20 Premier League clubs met today for over 2 hours via video conference to discuss what to do about the remainder of the PL season.
The decision they reached was to revisit it all again in three weeks when the recently extended government lockdown is expected to end.
There is so much at stake here that it is a monumental and daunting task for the league and club executives to sort out.
This includes, but is not limited to…
1) Several clubs say their financial situations are heading into the red quickly.
2) There remains the battle between the PFA and the clubs over players taking compensation cuts.
3) There is a matter of the domestic and international TV rights.
4) 57 PL players have contracts expiring on June 30th.
5) Then, if the season can resume, how much prep time are the players given to get match fit?
6) Plus, the Premier League has to find a way to squeeze in their remaining games into a relatively small window.
7) Also, will games be played exclusively behind closed doors?
8) And finally, the 2019-2020 season needs to come to an end before the 2020-2021 season is scheduled to start.
Ouch, all of this makes my brain hurt.
Here in the States, there is a lot of speculation this country might begin reopening slowly in the next few weeks. However, attending games in large stadiums with large numbers of people is still a long way off.
Who, what, when and where?
As they say, only time will tell!
Cheers, and stay healthy!
