The week’s timeline looks something like this…
Sunday – UK Prime Minster Boris Johnson will address the nation and provide his plans on how to help shape the county’s reopening strategy.
Monday – The Premier League’s shareholders will meet to discuss decisive next steps to reopen the season.
Tuesday or Wednesday – The league’s managers and captains will meet to discuss their concerns for reopening the season.
Thursday – UK Cultural Secretary Oliver Dowden will meet with FA, Premier League and English Football League officials.
Friday – Maybe we will know something!
Ultimately, the UK government will have the final say.
In a recent radio interview on the BBC, Secretary Dowden said, “They’ve not been given the green light. If we can get a plan that works then I’d like us to be able to go ahead with it because I think it would be good for the nation, it would be good for football as a whole. I’m really hopeful we can get this up and running but public safety must come first so it’s only if we’re confident of that that we’ll be able to proceed. It’s not just the Premier League, it’s the rest of football and indeed other sports that could potentially take place behind closed doors.”
Obviously, there is a lot for these men and women to struggle with this week.
I still support playing the remainder of the season in Australia!
