Give or take a few days, the 2021/2022 Arsenal season is only 100 days away. Between now and then a few things will take place. The 2020/2021 campaign will come to an end and the Gunners will know their place, if any, for next season’s European competitions. Also, the 2020 European Championships will finally be played, and many of Arsenal’s stars will have a chance to shine on this big stage. Any finally, Arsenal will have their shot in the transfer market to continue to rebuild the Arsenal brand in the football world.
The Gunners have been linked to the following players this summer: Odsonne Edouard, Tariq Lamptey, Ibrahim Konate, Houseem Aouar, Emiliano Buendia, Hakan Calhanoglu and Achraf Hakimi. Mat Ryan could return to Brighton, so Arsenal would need a new back-up keeper, or possibly a new contender to compete for Bernd Leno for #1. A back-up for Kieran Tierney is required, so will be replacement for Hector Bellerin at right fullback. The Spaniard has been linked to several big clubs. Then, if Mikel Arteta and Edu can not find the ways or means to retain Martin Odegaard, a suitable replacement for his spot on the squad will also be a necessity.
Arsenal might see some familiar names hit the road this summer as well. The list “could” include: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Dani Ceballos, Alex Runarsson, Mat Ryan, Hector Bellerin, Matteo Guendouzi, Sead Kolasinac, Reiss Nelson, Lucas Torreira, David Luiz, Eddie Nketiah and Konstantinos Mavropano.
Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock and David Luiz are still on the bubble for me.
Here are the players that I believe are sure to stay and play big roles for next season: Bernd Leno, Kieran Tierney, Gabriel Magalhaes, Rob Holding, Pablo Mari, Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey, Mo Elneny, Emile Smith Rowe, Granit Xhaka, Gabriel Martinelli, Willian, Calum Chambers, Cedric Soares, William Saliba and Folarin Balogun.
So these lists includes: 12 who could leave, 5 on the bubble, and 16 who will stay. If this list is even close to accurate, the Gunners will need to sign 5-7 new players for next season.
Thoughts?
Cheers.
