Daniel Ek is quickly making news headlines in the UK since he announced his “serious” intention to purchase the Arsenal Football Club from American Stan Kroenke.
It has been made perfectly clear by Arsenal supporters that Kroenke is no longer welcome in north London. At last, any trust Gooners had in Silent Stan is now gone. Even before last week’s European Super League fiasco, supporters of this storied club were sick and tired of the product the ownership was putting on the pitch. The club was in a downward spiral, and the Kroenke group was no where to be found anywhere near the club, or in the community it represents.
So, now enters a billionaire music internet mogul from Sweden who has both the cash, and he says, the passion to bring this club back to the glory days of “The Invincibles.” Even further, to prove how serious he really is, he has brought in Arsenal legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira to help in his bid to buy the Arsenal Football Club.
Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports, “Spotify owner Daniel Ek is totally serious about buying Arsenal. He has the funds to complete the deal. Henry, Bergkamp and Vierira are completely committed. EK is also open to having fan representation on the board.”
When Josh Kroenke was in London last week to address Arsenal supporters, he made it clear his family has no interest in selling the club. However, reports indicate Ek and his three Invincibles are preparing a bid somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.64-billion (USD) to present to the Kroenkes. Is this tempting enough to make Mr. Korenke change his mind? I, for one, hope so.
In my opinion, if Kroenke nixes this type of deal, Arsenal supporters will grow even more upset with Kroenke, and the gap between ownership and the fan base will expand to the size of the Grand Canyon.
Also, let’s not forget Nigerian billionaire and businessman Aliko Dangote who has expressed interest in buying the club for the past several years as well.
The plot thickens. Who will blink first?
Stay tuned!
Cheers.
