At the top, we need to congratulate the Arsenal brass for signing a new, long term contract with Kieran Tierney. The Gunner full back told Arsenal.com, “It feels amazing. Firstly, when the manager came to me and said, ‘We want you to extend your deal, we’re so happy with how you’ve come along’, it was just amazing for me to hear because I’ve worked so hard since I’ve joined.” This the best news of the summer so far. This young star will certainly be our future captain!
On many fronts it looks like next week it shaping up to be a big week for Arsenal fans, too. First, Bukayo Saka and his England teammates continue on their quest for European glory when they face Germany in the Round of 16 on Tuesday. The 19-year-old has already demonstrated a flare for the international game, winning “Star of the Match” on Tuesday v Czech Republic. If the Three Lions can get past the Germans, they would face the winner of the Sweden/Ukraine Round of 16 match.
Secondly, Arsenal will possibly be moving host of players soon. It will be a very interesting day to see who stays and who goes. Everyone has their lists, however, I think we might be in for a few surprises we didn’t see coming. There are no contracts that end on June 30th, however, Alexandre Lacazette, Sead Kolasinac, Calum Chambers, Mo Elneny and Matteo Guendouzi will all be entering the final year of their contracts beginning on July 1st.
And finally, with any luck Mikel Arteta and Edu will make their first new, big signings of the transfer window next week, by putting pen to paper with defender Ben White from Brighton and Hove, and midfielder Albert Sambi from Eintracht Frankfurt. If the Gunners can land these two players, I think the rest will follow and the squad will see a vast improvement in terms of quality for the coming season.
So, let’s keep out fingers crossed for a big week ahead!
Cheers.
