Hopefully, today’s announcement will be the first of many to take place in the days ahead as 21-year-old defender Nuno Tavares has officially signed a long-term contract with the Gunners.
Tavares will serve as the primary back-up to Kieran Tierney at left back, but he can also play other defensive positions when needed.
The Portugal man made 25 appearances for Benfica, including both Round of 32 matches v Arsenal in last season’s Europa League.
Manager Mikel Arteta told Arsenal.com, said: “We welcome Nuno to the club. He is a young player with great promise who has developed very well with Benfica in recent seasons and has also shown his quality by being part of Portugal Under-21s. Nuno’s arrival will give the squad extra strength and options in defence, particularly with this energy on the left side of the pitch. We look forward to Nuno’s arrival soon, his integration into the Arsenal family and playing in front of our fantastic supporters.”
Tavares will wear the #20 shirt this season.
With the bubble finally burst, let’s hope Edu and Arteta keep the momentum rolling by signing Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ben White this coming week. Follow that with a new contract for Emile Smith-Rowe, a goalkeeper, another attacking midfielder and a striker. If they can accomplish that, they would have had a successful transfer window.
Maybe there is a surprise signing in there as well.?
One, can only hope,
Cheers.
