Ted Lasso, Antonio Conte and Alexandre Lacazette

I’m sorry to report that Ted Lasso did not get the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s job. I guess AFC Richmond made a counter offer to keep Lasso on board with Coach Beard, Rebecca, Roy and the lot. Lasso needs to be patient, however,  because Antonio Conte and Daniel Levy will eventually come to blows, and the bubble will burst, as it always does at Tottenham.

Okay, let’s move onto more interesting stuff, shall we?

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around Alexandre Lacazette leaving Arsenal this summer. The 30-year-old Frenchman has been so important to our club since he came on board in 2017. Yes, there have been struggles, and yes, there have been periods when goals just weren’t going in for the striker, however, at the end of the day, I think he is still an important member of this squad.

Numerous reports have indicated he will ignore any offer coming from the Arsenal front office for a new contract. I guess he has decided his time in north London is done, and maybe he feels the need to move on and apply his craft somewhere else. Atletico Madrid could be his next destination.

At Arsenal, Laca has made 178 appearances and scored 68 goals. For his total career, he has made 453 appearances and scored 197 goals. Not a bad track record.

Recently, Mikel Arteta has been starting Laca and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang upfront together. In my opinion, this pairing in a 4-4-2 set-up would provide more goals, however, it has to be given the opportunity to work. If it does work successfully on a consistent basis, maybe both the club and the player might consider a change of plans going forward. I for one, would like to see Laca stay.

In a recent Yankegooner.net poll, 79% voted in favor of the Frenchman signing a new contract with Arsenal. That says something about his popularity and appeal with the Arsenal faithful. Right?

So, if he does leave, who is his replacement? Does Eddie Nketiah, Folarin Balogun, Pepe or Gabriel Martinelli get the opportunity to become Auba’s main partner, or does the club look outside for possible transfers such as Luka Jovic or Andrea Belotti?

Whatever happens this summer happens, however, there is still so much football to play this season and so many things to accomplish. Right now Laca is a main contributor to the club’s recent run of good fortune. Let’s hope it continues.

Cheers.

  1. The important thing is to get the formation. 4 4 2 is the preferred. During a game it could easily change to 4 4 1 1.

I would love to see laca stay, but he seems to have made up his mind. We have to remember that Auba is nort a puppy. If laca goes we must buy a another striker. Auba is now at the age where injuries occur. I have liked Arsensio. He has the right name, but we gotta watch the dollars as we may need to cover for Auba.

I would like to see the young gunners be given a chance to shine, more game time for them in EFL and FA, and use of them as subs if Auba and Laca start to hang their heads.
