2022/2023 is not that far away to start planning

My how things have changed over the past few weeks at the Arsenal Football Club.

The Gunners are now on the brink of Champions League football after putting together a 4-game winning streak, plus players like Mo Elneny, Granti Xhaka and Eddie Nketiah have regained the respect and appreciation of both the club and the club’s supporters.

With the transfer window only weeks away, the Arsenal hierarchy have said they plan to bring in at least three new players this summer. Making the most headlines right now are Youri Tielemans, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Aaron Hickey.

Yankee Gooner predicts the 2022/2023 Arsenal squad will look something like this…

Goalkeepers: Aaron Ramsdale, Matt Turner

Center backs: Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White, William Saliba, Rob Holding

Fullbacks: Kieran Tienry, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Aaron Hickey

Midfielders: Thomas Partey, Martin Odegaard, Youri Tielemans, Mo Elneny, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Emile Smith Rowe

Forwards: Gabriel Jesus or Raheem Sterling, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Folarin Balogun

Leaving the club will be: Bernd Leno, Nicolas Pepe, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Hector Bellerin, Nuno Tavares, Alex Runarsson, Pablo Mari, Dino Mavropanos, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson

I struggle with Granit Xhaka and Cedric Sores, however, at the end of the day I think Xhaka’s time at Arsenal has come to an end, as will Cedric’s if Arteta can find a suitable back-up to Tomi this summer.

So, if my squad comes to fruition, here’s my predicted starting XI on opening day next season…

[4-2-3-1]

Jesus or Sterling

Martinelli, Odegaard, Saka

Partey, Tielemans

Tierney, Gabriel, White, Tomiyasu

Ramsdale

Thoughts?

Cheers.
