The Premier League schedule makers did a very good job this year aligning each of the 20 team’s 38-game fixture list in and around the 6-week World Cup Finals break.
For Arsenal, I think this is a very good schedule. There are just three back-to-back matches v the Big Six clubs…
10/1 v Tottenham Hotspur and 10/8 v Liverpool
1/14 @ Tottenham Hotspur and 1/21 v Manchester United
4/26 @ Manchester City and 4/29 v Chelsea
The Gunners open the season on the road at Crystal Palace on August 5th, then close it out at Emirates Stadium v Wolves on May 28th.
At this point, the Gunners will play a minimum of 51 matches in 2022/2023: 5 preseason, 38 Premier League, 6 Europa League, 1 Carabao Cup and 1 FA Cup. Obviously, that number will increase depending on how far they advance in their three cup competitions.
To say the least, this will be a very interesting season for Europe’s domestic football clubs since the World Cup Finals take place in the middle of their seasons. A big concern for all of these clubs sending players to the competition will be the injury and fatigue factor. Arsenal could potentially have 10-13 players currently on the Arsenal roster playing in the 2022 WC. This will be a major concern for Mikel Arteta and with restarting the season on Boxing Day v West Ham United.
Any way you shake it, the 2022/2023 season will have its share of drama.
I can’t wait!
Cheers.
