I’m just back from a brief 4 day mini-vacation. The trip was absolutely terrific, but I made one major mistake…I checked the final score of Arsenal’s game on Thursday. Wow, what a shocker!
So, now that I’m back home, I have been reading news articles and web postings regarding the game. However, since I haven’t watched the game yet (I will on Monday), I can only assume we didn’t play very well. It sounds like another poor performance by a team in chaos and suffering from the horrible disease of confidence deficiency.
I also read Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scrubbed current contract talks with Arsenal until the end of the season. It sounds like Real Madrid is making some serious noise to sign Auba as soon as January. Now wouldn’t that be a major kick in the butt? Maybe they would rather have Mustafi or Xhaka, or both. Just a thought.
I also looked at the current Premier League table…
Arsenal is 10th in the standings.
Arsenal is 27 points behind top of the table Liverpool.
Arsenal is 10 points behind 4th place Chelsea.
Arsenal is 5 points behind Man United.
Arsenal is 4 points behind once-floundering Tottenham, who have found new life with “The Special One.”
Arsenal is 4 only points above Southampton in the relegation zone.
These numbers are shocking, depressing, and just overall disgusting!
Here’s my opinion…
I really think the Arsenal brass wasted the two week international break to make a coaching change. They had to have known the Unai Emery reign was over at that point. How could they not see it? While waiting to make their change, they lost the opportunity to sign Jose Mourinho. But, Tottenham didn’t wait, and now they have moved up the table to 6th, winning 3 out of 4 for “The Special One.” I know Jose brings drama and all of that other stuff with him, but ultimately he wins matches and trophies, and he knows tactics and how to get the most out of his squad.
I’m sure Freddie Ljungberg is doing his best, but at the end of the day, it’s just not good enough. Freddie doesn’t have the experience on the touch line to get this team organized and headed in the right direction. In my opinion he is over his head. I hope the Arsenal front office makes a manager change soon. Rodgers and Allegri are off the board, so it looks like Mikel Arteta might be the top choice. Maybe they have other names to consider, but if they do, they need to make a decision quick. Our club needs direction, leadership and a firm hand at the helm…immediately!
So, what did I miss? Well, I guess I missed a lot, but then again, maybe I didn’t miss anything. 🙁
