For me, one of the most frustrating things in football is how the offside rule has been defined and enforced over the past few seasons. To be or not to be, what is or what isn’t offside? Even with VAR the offside rule has been a bone of contention.
So, to help make things a little more straight forward for supporters, players and coaches, football’s official law-making body, the IFAB, spent the summer trying to clarify the offside rule.
Here’s a look at their official clarification to be implemented in this season’s Premier League…
The IFAB clarified the offside rule by explaining what constitutes defending players “deliberately playing” the ball, making clear that an attacking player who is offside will not automatically become onside upon a defender touching the ball, unless it was a save.
Deliberate play is when a player has control of the ball with the possibility of passing the ball to a team-mate, gaining possession of the ball, or clearing the ball.
If the pass, attempt to gain possession or clearance by the player in control of the ball is inaccurate or unsuccessful, this does not negate the fact that the player “deliberately played the ball.”
I’m sure our TV broadcaster will help us understand this one a little better throughout the season.

An impressive share! I have just forwarded this onto
a coworker who had been conducting a little research on this.
And he in fact bought me lunch because I stumbled upon it for him…
lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thanks for the meal!!
But yeah, thanks for spending some time to discuss this subject here on your website.
Thanks for some other great post. Where else could anyone get that type of information in such an ideal method of writing?
I’ve a presentation next week, and I’m on the search
for such information.
I appreciate, cause I found exactly what I used to be looking for.
You have ended my 4 day long hunt! God Bless you man. Have a nice day.
Bye
I have been surfing online more than 3 hours as of late, yet I never found any attention-grabbing article like yours.
It is beautiful value sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all web
owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the web will likely be much more helpful than ever before.
