One would have to wonder what was going through the minds of the Real Madrid front office when they let Martin Odegaard leave for Arsenal.
In my opinion, the mistake by Real Madrid, and good foresight by the Gunners, are what really helped kick start the Arsenal resurgence we are currently witnessing.
The 23-year-old Norwegian midfielder roared upon the scene, especially during the early part of this season. On Saturday, the Gunners captain scored a brace within the first eleven minutes of the match. He quickly set Mikel Arteta’s game plan into action early, and proved he can lead through example on the pitch, as well as in the changing room.
We aren’t ready to compare this young man abilities to either Cesc Fabregas or Mesut Ozil, however, if you take a serious looks at his skills, his passing accuracy, and all the rest, Martin Odegarrd could eventually be mentioned in the same breath as these former Arsenal midfielders.
Also, let’s compare the start of last season to the start of this season. At this point of the campaign in 2021, the Gunners had lost their first three matches in the Premier League, failing to score even a single goal. We were at the bottom of the table. Look where we are now, in first place, three straight wins, nine goals scored, two away wins and two clean sheets. Some of the credit has to go to Martin Odegaard for helping to re-ignite our passion and joy for the club.
Kudos to Arteta, Edu Gaspar, and whatever Arsenal scout first saw the potential in this terrific player. What he brings to the table will be a major factor to the success Arsenal can, and will achieve this season.
