Following the postponement of last weekend’s Premier League match v Everton, and now with today’s announcement the October 19th match v Manchester City has been postponed to accommodate an October 20th rescheduling of Arsenal’s Europa League group stage game v PSV Eindhoven, the Gunners hectic fixture list will get even crazier in the days ahead.
The good news is Arsenal’s Sunday match at Brentwood will go on as planned with an earlier start time of 7 am EDT. A postponement of that fixture would have created an even bigger nightmare for Mikel Arteta.
With the World Cup already creating scheduling havoc for clubs, additional postponements in the future will only add to a backlog of matches. In my humble opinion, the Carabao Cup should have been cancelled this season to help with the overload. Players are only human, and humans get burned out and injured. Even elite athletes. Sometimes I think this is overlooked.
My best wishes go out to the schedule makers in Europe who have to make revamp the schedules going forward, for the domestic leagues, for the domestic cups matches and for all the European competitions, men’s and women’s. Good luck!
Stay tuned!
