North London is Red, and Gooners are over the moon!
It’s always great to say that out loud. Not only did Arsenal win the match 3-1 on Saturday, with just a few exceptions, the Gunners outplayed Hotspur from start to finish.
It was apparent from the beginning of the match Arsenal came to play, to dominate, and to ultimately win the game. Their energy, their commitment and their overall game plan put Tottenham on the back foot from the opening kick-off.
Kudos to Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff for their terrific preparation, and to the players for their great execution. Of course, let’s not forget the capacity crowd at the Emirates for their overwhelming support from the stands!
So, as we wrap-up the 8th weekend of the Premier League season, the Gunners remain on the top of the pile, one point up on Man City, six points clear of Tottenham on the league table.
Surprise, surprise, Pepe Guardiola and his Sky Blues are nipping at the Gunners heals. At this point of the season, City is the only unbeaten club in the Premier League, while their newest superstar, Erling Haaland, has already stuck 14 goals into the back of the net. As a team, Pepe’s squad has scored a league-leading 29.
Now, it’s too early to start thinking about a title race, however, the Gunners see what they are up against, and must realize they will need to play with consistency, match in and match out, to stay in lock step with Man City.
Back to the Tottenham game, Granit Xhaka was named Man of the Match, and rightfully so. #34 has been remarkable to this point of the season, adding leadership to the club, along with sharp play in the midfield.
Also, let’s not forget the superb goal Thomas Partey scored in the first half. When Partey connects with his full boot, look out, he can put a lot of heat on his shots on goal. This was a beauty to watch.
Next up, Bodo/Glimt in Thursday’s Europa League group stage match at the Emirates. Then on Sunday, struggling Liverpool rolls into north London.
With Arteta’s squad almost back to full strength, the boss will have a good selection of players to rotate into his starting XI on Thursday.
But for now, let’s enjoy the win over Hotspur!
COYG!
