Arsenal Women’s team manager Jonas Eidevall understands the challenge his club faces today in their Champions League match v reigning champions, Olympique Lyonnais.
The boss told Arsenal.com…
“It’s a very good reality check to see where we’re at at the moment. That is always very exciting to see because no matter what, tomorrow you will know exactly where we are at, what we need to continue to improve on and what we are already good at. So I’m really looking forward to seeing where we’re at. I think when you play in the Champions League, it is a little bit different playing really good teams like Lyon, you can’t think you can play a game with complete control. So this game here will be very different. We need to deal with facing tougher opponents, facing more set pieces, so the game itself is very different.”
Eidevall will be without two of his main players, Rafaelle Souza and Leah Williamson. Both women face long-term recoveries from injury.
However, on the positive side, Ballon d’Or Feminin runner-up Beth Mead will be on-hand to lead the club alongside Viviane Miedema, Katie McCabe. Caitlin Ford, Lotte Wobben-Moy and Kim Little.
The Gunners are competing in Group C along with FC Zurich, Juventus and Lyon. This is one of the most competitive groups in this year’s Women’s Champions League, so if Arsenal can manage to advance out of this group, they will be in good form heading into the knockout rounds.
COYG!
Cheers.
