Edu Gaspar’s #1 goal on his to do list is to get pen to paper with three of Arsenal’s brightest and youngest stars – Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba.
Time and again, especially this season, this talented trio have proven their value over and over. It’s time they receive the additional financial rewards that should be coming their way – now.
Saka’s contract expires in June, 2024. Saliba’s deal expires in June, 2023, however, Arsenal has the option to extend for an additional year. Martinelli’s contract expires in June, 2024 as well, however, the Gunners also have the option to add two extra years if they so desire.
Even though two of these contracts don’t run out for a year our two, the Gunners brass need to show these players their worth to the club. If not, other clubs will come knocking and waving a lot of cash in order to steal them away. How many times in recent years have we seen that happen? Too many.
On the bright side of things, Martinelli is telling everyone, “All I need is a pen.” If I was Edu and Arteta, I would have as many pens in hand as Gabriel needs to sign a new deal.
Bukayo Saka has also expressed interest in extending his career at Arsenal, and has given Mikel Arteta confidence enough for him to feel a new agreement is imminent.
As far as Saliba goes, he too has praised his short time with the Gunners, however, what he has shown on the pitch this season has the “big European clubs” circling like sharks. The young, French defender has been a God send for the Arsenal back line this season.
This Arsenal team is clicking very nicely right now. Even though there are still some areas that need reinforcements in January, the chemistry this squad has shown through the first seventeen games of the season should not be allowed to be upset by contract disputes, or player uncertainties.
Let’s get these deals done!
Cheers.
