What happened to Thomas Partey to possibly send him packing?

There was a time not long ago that Thomas Partey was considered not only an undroppable starter for Mikel Artera, but also one of the keys to Arsenal’s success story. However, today, the tide has changed and Partey is asking to leave the Gunners this summer.

What happened?

First, there were the injuries to Partey over the course of his Arsenal career, especially the thigh injury this past season that kept him on the sidelines.

During his recovery, Arteta and Gaspar Edu brought in Jorginho from Chelsea to fill the void, however, most supporters believed Partey would resume his starting role in the #6 position following his recovery, but that just wasn’t to be the case.

Jorginho performed well, and the Ghanian midfielder was no longer Arteta’s first choice at the #6 position, including the big crosstown derby v Chelsea in May.

When he did play, his performances became inconsistent, and the Thomas Partey we knew and loved had lost his edge, and possibly his confidence.

As the season closed to an end, the handwriting on the wall was becoming clear, Partey would no longer be a guaranteed starter, nor would he be a key player in the future of Arsenal football.

Finally, the Gunners went hunting this summer for more midfield talent, including Declan Rice and Kai Havertz. Partey’s future with Arsenal was looking more and more bleak as the midfield defender’s position was becoming more and more crowded.

So, here we are, looking at Partey probably leaving north London this summer, with Juventus a possible landing spot.

To me, Partey was one of my favorite Arsenal players. When he was at the top of his game, he was a force of nature.

Let’s hope he can rekindle that spark wherever he lands during the next chapter of his football journey.

Cheers.

  1. Please don’t come to public platform to impose ignorance on the masses. With all due respect, Arteta has become the butterfly that call himself bird. From day one he rejected Partey. The board used there power to bring him in. There is no player whose presence on the pitch do guarantee winning like that of Partey. However, Arteta has been working night and day to see he goes out. Just like Wenger of late, they abhors physicality at the middle of the pack. Partey did not play the first three Premiership games of last season. We lost all, not even scoring one goal. This season, of the six Premiership loses Arteta incured, Partey was just present in one, against City, despite making most of the starts. It was when he brought in his beloved Jorginho against Everton they scored. Jorginho was responsible for whopping four loses despite just being present for fewer games. There has been series of bad decisions Arteta is making , even in this transfer opening and Arsenal hierarchy are helplessly staring at him. Lets see where it will take us to.

  2. If at some point Arteta chooses to leave for Arsenal, which at least at the moment seems very distant, maybe even impossible, we are not worried. Now we have so many intelligent Coaches, of the keyboard and the platform, who have magical abilities such as entering the mind of the coach and explaining everything, without him saying a word. Or they can see a movement on a player and to draw a conclusion like creations of artificial intelligence. So everything is fine… And if Arteta dares every now and then to do anything, he is simply irrelevant and looks To train another team, not ours. What can he know who is in the training center every day, and has the entire Arsenal team to inform him about the smallest, the smallest l Detail on issues related to each individual athlete…Sigh, all this is not enough….to be a coach. We have stars on the keyboard, we will not be able to choose.

  3. Arteta should think really well, he shouldn’t let partey go, sending him away means we don’t have enough depths again considering the numerous games to play, who will fill in that void or does he intend to overuse rice, this coach should avoid mistakes

  4. Every manager has that one player that they let go of at the wrong time. Let’s pray Arteta rethinks this foolishness. An injury to any of our key midfielders would be the equivalent to what happened to Partey. City have a deep squad. They’ve proven that to compete on multiple fronts and to combat injuries it’s becoming a prerequisite.
