Besides the 5-0 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday, there were some other nice stories that developed during the match. Let’s take a look.
Congratulations to Eddie Nketiah for scoring his first Premier League hat-trick. All three goals were wonderful exhibits of the English striker’s ability, and yes, even though his performances have been scrutinized of late, on Saturday that meant nothing as it all came together for Eddie to produce a performance he claims he will never forget.
After Eddie scored three, he had a chance to score a fourth. However, Fabio Vieira asked Eddie if he could take the penalty kick instead, and because Eddie knew Fabio and his wife would soon become parents, Nketiah gave the ball to Vieira allowing him to take the penalty strike and score the team’s 4th goal. That was a wonderful moment of friendship and respect.
In his 50th Arsenal appearance, Takehiro Tomiyasu finally scored his first Arsenal goal. The entire team, and the thousands of Gunner supporters in Emirates Stadium gave the Japanese fullback a thunderous round of applause and celebration. Tomiyasu is regarded as a very popular player among all of Gooner Nation, so it was a great moment to watch.
And finally, with Martin Odegaard given the day off, Bukayo Saka was named the squad’s captain v Sheffield United. Saka claimed, “I didn’t know how really to describe it. You know me and you know where I’ve come from the academy. To be at the front, leading the boys out today was just unbelievable. I’m lost for words, it’s hard to describe the feeling. It’s just amazing. I enjoyed it. It was a difference experience.”
Overall, Saturday was a great day! Congratulations to Mikel Arteta and his entire staff and team for giving us a remarkable match filled with excitement, and wonderful stories!
Cheers.
