We have witnessed a season full of peaks and valleys, joy and sorrow, greatness and weakness.
What was suppose to be the final chapter of Mikel Arteta’s “project,” this season has turned into just another chapter begging to get to the end of the story.
On many levels his “project” has been a success. The club’s internal cultural has changed, Champions League football has returned to north London, the club has competed at the top in the Premier League for three consecutive season – but at the end of the day, there has not been a trophy to lift in five seasons.
Some say Arteta has reached the end of his time at Arsenal, that he can not find a path forward beyond where the Gunners currently stand. Others, like me, think he should be given at least one more season. However, in order to earn the opportunity the head coach needs to open his ears and listen.
Arsenal needs at least two new forwards, and not just any forwards, but two really good ones who can battle in the box and find the back of the net on a regular basis. The team needs at least two solid midfielders as well, both defensively and for attacking, plus the Gunners at least one more solid defender, as well as a competitive goalkeeper to battle with David Raya.
This summer, sporting director Andrea Berta and Arteta need to hit the market fast and furious. They need to go spend a lot of Stan Kroenke’s money on elite players to make this club better, and more importantly, to make Arsenal a champion once more.
Arsenal showed it can compete in the Champions League, plus a third-straight Premier League runner-up finish would be great, however, being a bridesmaid is not the goal, and is not what drives Gooners to buy tickets or to watch on the team on TV. Gooners want titles, trophies and parades!
Finish strong, and come back in July bigger, better and more focussed than ever before!
COYG!
