How do you feel about Tottenham Hotspur winning the Europe League final?
As a football fan, do you feel any different?
My guess, the answer could be the same, right?
After a very long, dark period of time not winning any major trophies, Spurs finally achieved a chance to lift silverware Wednesday night in Spain. Yes, it was a glorious night for Spurs supporters as their dry spell finally, finally came to an end.
Congratulations to Spurs for winning the Europa League, but playing Champions League football next season Hmmm…
Yes, a lot has been said about Tottenham standing 17th on the Premier League table, and in the Europa League final playing Manchester United, a team only one spot ahead of Spurs on the table. However, Wednesday’s match was a European cup final. Records, past performances and media discourse really had nothing to do with this match. It was only about what happened on that pitch for 90 minutes that really counts. Yes, I get that.
The bad taste in my mouth is that Hotspur has won a spot in next season’s Champions League. I get it, they won a spot through winning the Europa League, however, playing a short schedule of those games, v less than Premier League quality clubs, doesn’t match-up with playing a 38-match schedule in Europe’s best league.
This weekend, clubs that are 27 or more points better on the table then Tottenham will be fighting for the last three remaining Champions League places. I mean, I get how Spurs are Champions League bound, but the irony is just overwhelming.
On top of that, Spurs will receive a very, very large lump of cash from FIFA that will enable a 17th place club to rebuild handsomely this summer.
Plus, the Gunners now have the 4th longest major trophy draught among the seven London-based Premier League clubs, knowing our neighbors down the road are on that list above our club is a tough pill to swallow.
Truly, I feel some happiness for those long-suffering Tottenham’s supporters, but it is still a hard pill to swallow for a Gooner.

They won the, (second rate), Europa league by beating 3rd rate teams that half of us have never heard of, and a really, really shite Man U.
They have, (so far), lost 21 games in the Prem. They will still be crap next season, while we will improve our prem challenge.
