The Gunners walked away with a very hard fought 1-0 win over Olympiacos in Athens on Thursday. Alexandre Lacazette’s goal in the 81st minute was the difference maker. Now, Arsenal will face the same club at the Emirates next Thursday with an away goal advantage. An Arsenal win or draw will put the Gunners into the Europa’s League’s Round of 16 for the third straight year.
Here are a few of Mikel Arteta’s post-match comments:
“We should have started better than we did in the first half. Defensively we made one or two mistakes positionally that could cost us in difficult situations, and then with the ball we gave a lot of simple balls away. We had situations where it was open, the next part was open, we could run and then it would be with our opponent. That’s something we have to improve on as well.”
All-in-all, it was a team win. The defensive had one of their best overall performances of the season with Musafi and Saka being the stand-outs, and it was the team’s third straight clean sheet.
Offensively, it was a rather lackluster night, but give the home side credit for playing some tough defensive of their own.
Arteta evened his Arsenal coaching record at 5 wins, 5 draws and 1 defeat, while the Gunners remain the only club in Europe’s top 5 leagues to be remain unbeaten in 2020. That says something!
Cheers to the Arsenal! Gunner1953
