Friday’s football notes…

Today is Day #17 of “Social Distancing” at the Yankee Gooner homestead. I hope all of you are safe and healthy wherever you might be. Hang in their. the light at the end of the tunnel MIGHT be coming! Let’s keep our fingers crossed before we all go nuts or broke, or both.

Anyway, here are a few football notes to wrap-up another week…

Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports News he has two or three transfer scenarios ready to go once a transfer window opens (whenever that is). Arteta told the media outlet, “We have to react daily. We don’t know what the financial situation is going to be, we don’t know the rules, the timing, the window. I’m planning two or three different scenarios that we can face. Depending on one of those three, we will be able to do more, less or nothing.” The Gunners have several key signing to make at before the end of the season, including Aubameyang and Saka. Ceballos, Soares and Mari are loanees who could stay permanently.

The Premier League clubs are hopeful they can get training restarted in mid-May, with a season reboot in June. One possible approach to ensure everyone’s health would be the installation of coronavirus testing machines at all 20 club training grounds. Players and staff would then be closely monitored to make sure they continue to be COVID-19 free. Part two of the league’s proposal would be to play the rest of the schedule behind closed doors, thus, keeping supporters away from stadiums for the remainer of the 2019-2020 season. Part of the problem for the league is the fact they do not want to pay back to broadcasters an estimated $934-million (USD) for lost games. The PFA also remainr concerned about the players health and the strain this would put on health workers required to be at the games.

According to the Daily Mail, the creation of #PlayersTogether is also worrying the Premier League that they will have a harder time convincing players to take pay cuts or salary deferrals for the rest of the season. Some teams are already fearing they will have to offload players to make ends meet.

Cheers, and stay healthy!
Until tomorrow…
