Okay, let’s talk some football, even though it is purely speculation at this point. At least it’s not more of the same doom and gloom we have been hearing for the past few months. Don’t get me wrong, that’s all important information for us to hear, but let’s put is aside just for the moment. Shall we, please?
According a story released by Italian newspaper Courier dello Sports (via Sport Witness in the UK), Arsenal have offered to pay the $63.1-million (USD) release clause for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey. The newspaper says the Ghanian is “just one step away from joining Arsenal.” David Ornstein of The Athletic has also reported Arsenal’s serious interest in the midfielder, but doesn’t go as far to say the Gunners have actually activated the release clause, or that they have just made it clear they are ready to do so.
Here’s the scoop on Thomas Partey. He is 26 years old, is a defensive midfielder, stands 6’1″, wears #5, and has made over 150 appearances for Atletico Madrid. He has also represented Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Partey was named to the CAF Team of the Year in 2018, and was the Ghana Player of the Year in both 2018 and 2019.
This guy looks like the real deal to front our back four. He is considered to be physical, aggressive, and determined. He is a clever defender, has a remarkable first touch, amazing passing skills, and he has a wicked free kick. Several sources say he is one of the best at his position, and he is considered the “defensive rock” in Diego Simeone’s rigid defense.
Check out Thomas’s highlight reel on You Tube, I think you, too, will be impressed. Let’s hope there is more truth than rumor to this story, because Partey would be a terrific signing for Arteta’s new look Gunners!
Cheers, and stay healthy!
