American soccer fans will have a new place to watch Champions League and Europe League matches beginning on Friday when CBS Sports takes over as the leagues’ new American TV and digital partner.
For me, this is terrific news since the Turner Sports crew never seemed to grab the true essence or ambience of these competitions. On the other hand, CBS Sports has been a major player in US TV sports coverage for decades, with extensive experience covering all of America’s greatest leagues and games. CBS now has control of the US rights through the end of the 2023-2024 season.
World Soccer Talk is reporting the network will televise games over-the-air on the CBS network, on their cable-based CBS Sports Network, and will also stream matches on CBS All Access and CBS Sports HQ.
Their first coverage will be Friday when they stream live the Champions League and Europa League draws.
This should be terrific news for all American soccer fans since, I predict, CBS Sports will take a more serious approach, provide better shoulder programming, and will offer a more comprehensive and exciting pre-game build-up show before the matches.
I wish CBS Sports the best of luck, and great success in their new venture.
We’ll be watching!
Cheers, and stay healthy and safe!
