As the end of the Premier League season draws near, it’s time to take a look at Arsenal’s squad, and decide who should stay and who should go this summer.
My “who should stay” list was a no brainer, however, my “who should go” list included a couple of difficult decisions.
Those decisions included Sead Kolasinac, Hector Bellerin and Shkodran Mustafi. All three of these men are at a point in their careers where they can still move on and be successful at other clubs. Bellerin was the most difficult decision to make since he has always been a favorite of mine. Unfortunately for him, the addition of Cedric Soares to the squad will mean less and less playing time for Bellerin at right fullback in the season ahead. I will also give some credit to Kolasinac and Mustafi who have given the best they have, but they just don’t have the skills or consistency to help Arteta reach his ultimate goals.
Who should stay…
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (sign him!)
Bernd Leno
Emiliano Martinez
Kieran Tierney
Rob Holding
Cedric Soares
Calum Chambers
Pablo Mari
Dani Ceballos (sign him, too!)
Joe Willock
Granit Xhaka
Nicolas Pepe
Reiss Nelson
Eddie Nketiah
Gabriel Martinelli
Bukayo Saka
William Saliba
Emile Smith-Rowe
Who should go, and why...
Konstantinos Mavropanos (loan)
Sead Kolasinac (a versatile player, but still worth some cash)
Mohamed Elneny (has already disappeared off the Arsenal radar)
Henrikh Mkhitaryan (wants to stay at Roma anyway)
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (loan)
Alexandre Lacazette (Auba needs a new running mate)
Matt Macey (loan)
Hector Bellerin (will be out-classed by Soares)
Sokratis Papastathopoulos (a big disappointment)
David Luiz (I know, he just signed a one year deal….but)
Shkodran Mustafi (too inconsistent)
Mesut Ozil (we need the cash, plus, he doesn’t play anyway)
Matteo Guendouzi (nothing but TROUBLE)
