Aaron Ramsey looks to be a man without a team.
The 29-year-old Welshman left Arsenal on a free transfer last summer, and signed on with Juventus for a whopping $522,000 (USD) per week salary. However, since he packed up and moved to Turin, his playing time has been limited.
In 24 total matches with the Old Lady, Rambo scored only 3 goals. He never caught on in Italy or Serie A, and now his new Juventus manager, Andrea Pirlo, has no plans to include Ramsey in future plans with the club. So technically, Rambo is a free agent.
Would Mikel Arteta take another look at the former Arsenal man? The two played together at the Emirates for several years, so the boss knows what Ramsey is all about, as a player and as a person. However, are his wages and his recent desire to leave Arsenal last summer just too much baggage to bring back to north London? Does Arteta need this kind of distraction at the beginning of a new, and shall we say, hopeful season?
For me, Aaron Ramsey was one of my favorite Arsenal players. During his 262 games played for the Gunners, he scored 40. His enthusiasm and his flare with the ball were special, and he was a fun to watch play on our squad. He also came up big, twice, in FA Cup Finals. Not only that, but Ramsy has been a key player fo the Welsh national team.
Aaron has the Gunner DNA, he has the skills and ability, he has a football mind, he has tons of experience, but does he fit into Mikel Arteta’s plans? With Mesut Ozil looking like he has played his last game in an Arsenal shirt, the Gunners currently will need more creativity in the midfield. With a potential world-class front line in the making, this club needs someone who can supply balls from the middle of the pitch, and neat clicks from the fringes outside and inside the box.
But at the end of the day, no matter how important Aaron Ramsey might be to supporters, I don’t think Mikel Arteta, or the Arsenal Board, will come calling for Rambo again. Unfortunately, there is always the chance he could end up at one of our Premier League rivals, and that would sting!
Unlike the Rambo movies with Sly Stallone reprising his role in numerous reboots, I don’t believe our Rambo will star in any Arsenal sequels in north London.
