With the Premier League kicking-off on September 12th, Mikel Arteta might not be able to complete all of his summer transfers by opening day.
So, with that said, let’s take a look at who the Gunners could have in their starting XI if the squad didn’t change at all between now and September 12th…
Goalkeeper: Leno or Martinez (a tough call for Arteta)
Defensive back four: Tierney, Saliba, Luiz, Bellerin
Midfielders: Xhaka, Willock, Saka
Forwards: Aubameyang, Lacazette, Willian
Now, if Arteta is able to complete his “wonder list” of transfers, then the XI might look something like this…
Goalkeeper: Leno or Martinez
Defensive back four: Tierney, Saliba, Luiz, Maitland-Niles
Midfielders: Xhaka, Partey, Aouar
Forwards: Saka, Aubameyang, Willian
By opening day, I would be thrilled if Arteta’s entire first team consisted of Leno, Martinez, Tierney, Saliba, Gabriel, Soares, Chambers, Mari, Luiz, Partey, Smith-Rowe, Saka, Maitland-Niles, Ceballos, Willock, Aouar, Xhaka, Willian, Aubameyang, Pepe, Nelson, Nketiah and Martinelli.
Also, I think Arteta and his coaching staff will not force feed Gabriel into the starting XI right away. Getting some mop-up time and observing from the sidelines might be a better way to introduce him to the Premier League.
There is just ten days to go until opening day at Fulham’s Craven Cottage. Expect a lot to happen with player movement during those ten days.
The clock is ticking!
Cheers, stay healthy and safe!
