It took the Gunners 14 years to finally come home with a win at Old Trafford, and it took Pierre-Emerick Aubamyeang 50 days to get his second Premier League goal of the season! The droughts are over!
Bernd Leno and his defensive front wall earned another clean sheet, meaning Arsenal is now the least scored upon team in the Premier League! How long has it been since the Gunners can claim that ranking? That’s quite an accomplishment for Mikel Arteta and his assistant coaches.
After two consecutive 1-0 PL losses, the Gunners defeated Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday, thanks to an Aubameyang penalty kick in the second half. The win brings the club up to 9th place in the league, but only four points from the top spot.
The Gunners had other opportunities to score on Sunday, but again finding the back of the net still remained troubling for this club. Arteta’s men mustered 7 total shots, with only two on goal v Man United. Again, these are very low numbers for a club possessing the world-class front line firing power it has. I really believe goal differential will be a huge factor in determining final positioning in the league table this season, which means the Gunners need to begin scoring a lot more goals.
Partey and Elneny paired up nicely throughout the contest, as Arteta started with a 3-4-3 line-up. Moving Tierney to the back three, while adding Saka as a left winger proved to be beneficial for the Gunners, both offensively and defensively.
Now, it’s two more home games, first with Molde FK on Thursday, and then a PL match v Emiliano Martinez and Aston Villa on Sunday before the November international break begins.
Wins in both matches would give the Gunners four in-a-row heading into the two week break.
All-in-all, a very nice victory at Manchester United, and we haven’t said that in a long, long time!
Cheers, and stay healthy and safe!
