As Arsenal prepares to play Molde FK at the Emirates later today, England has once again gone into a government ordered COVID-19 lockdown.
The lockdown began last night at midnight, and runs through December 2nd.
Regarding it’s impact on football across the country, the Premier League, the EFL, and the top National League’s divisions will continue to play, however, all clubs below the National League’s North and South divisions will have to sit on the sidelines until the lockdown is over.
The lockdown came about after scientists claimed England is seeing 96,000 new COVID cases every day, with the rate doubling in size every 9 days.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had this to say about the newest lockdown, “The message to the fans is that I miss them a lot. With what we are trying to build here, I want them to be a big part of the feeling and the passion that we want to transmit as a football club. We haven’t been able to spend time with them and now they have to go and sit in their houses again. I think that increases our responsibility to give them some happiness in these moments where people are suffering, and mentally it’s a really tough period to go through.”
Who’s to say there won’t be another lockdown in the US, too. This virus is one tough opponent, so please stay healthy, stay safe, and stay home until all of you, my English friends, are given the all clear.
