Sure, we are all disappointed with the final scoret on Sunday from Anfield, but the result does not prove Liverpool is a superior team. No way!
The match was won on “worldly” free kick by Dominik Szoboszlai. There isn’t a goalkeeper in the world who could have stopped that kick.
Overall, Arsenal played pretty good in one of the toughest atmospheres in world football, Anfield. The lads looked composed, and played with a toughness we didn’t see in the first two matches of the season.
The pros:
Cristhian Mosquera played extremely well replacing the injured William Saliba.
Eberechi Eze showed why the Gunners wrote the big check to sign him from Crystal Palace,
David Raya was strong in goal making two very important saves.
Mikel Merino played a nice and steady game replacing Martin Odegaard on the right side of midfield.
The cons:
Of course, Saliba’s injury tops the list.
The Gunners need to find more ways to bring Viktor Gyokeres into the game. Again, the striker had limited touches in the box. Mikel Arteta needs to conceive a better game plan to involve the Swedish goal scoring machine. Please!
Gabriel Martinelli. I love this guy, but he has been driving me nuts. Case in point…the ball is moving quickly around the pitch until it gets to Martinelli’s feet. Then, #11 tries to use all of his tricks and flicks, but unfortunately, more times than not, he looses the ball and the chance is gone. Arteta needs to consider Martinelli’s role going forward, or coach him up a little more. Please start either Eze on the left flank.
Finally, there were times in the match when it looked like the Gunners were playing just to stay even with Liverpool. The team needs to develop more confidence in their ability to beat the best clubs. Where is the killer instinct and the feeling that “we know we are better than you” mentality?
Okay, there is now a two week break to fix some mistakes, and to get some players healthy.
Let’s take advantage of tha time.
Up next, Nottingham Forest. I will you you there!
COYG!
