As Arsenal supporters gathered to protest the Stan Kroenke ownership this morning outside Emirates Stadium, I have to believe this is now the time for Arsenal Football Club to do a complete reset.
There is no way to Mr. Kroenke and his American sporting empire will regain any trust the Arsenal faithful had in him and his organization. We have seen a downward spiral since we took control of the club’s majority in 2011, and even more since he took total control in 2018.
I’m sure Mr. Kroenke is a brilliant businessman, however, English football is not his hardly his strong suit, and it’s really time for him to cash in his chips and move on. He spends limited time in London with the club, he has no personal connections or involvement in the north London community, and from the outside looking in, AFC is just another way to help finance his new NFL stadium in LA, and support other projects that our on his priority list. This is so obvious after a very poor and greedy decision to join the European Super League.
Gooners want their club back. That has been well proven this past week. Our voices were heard loud and clear, not only in England, but throughout the world. With other billionaires speaking their interest in buying the club, now is the time to sell, and sell to someone who has love and passion for this club. Someone who wants to bring Arsenal back to the top of European football. Not through the European Super League, but through the traditional channels of winning and earning your place at the top of the game.
I also think the Arsenal board needs to take a strong, hard look at Mikel Arteta. Is he really the right man for the job at this moment in Arsenal history? Looking back, Arsenal should have hired a more experienced person to manage the club following the Unai Emery mistake. I think Arteta will one day be a superb manager, but in this environment, and with this squad, it just isn’t working. The Gunners have lost the most Premier League games in a season in their history (13), have been shutout 13 times this season, will probably finish lower in the table than last season, and believe it or not, Arteta has a lower winning percentage after 70 games in charge than Emery had as the Gunners boss.
The team lacks any sense of consistency on the pitch. They are all over the map with their performances, both individually and collectively. Without the efforts of our young guns like Saka, Smith Rowe and Tierney, who knows where we would be in the current PL table. This, my friends, falls at Arteta’s feet. In my humble opinion, it just isn’t working.
With five league matches to go, and a first leg Europa League semifinal on Thursday, Arteta and his men could still find a little saving grace for this season. However, after their recent performances against Fulham and Everton, we will have to wait and see which Arsenal shows up, or will the Gunners find yet another way to self-destruct once again.
No cheers today…
