Wednesday kicks-off the Gunners official preseason schedule with a friendly match v AC Milan in Singapore.
This will be the final season of Mikel Arteta’s five-year “project.” Can he deliver a trophy or more this season to proclaim his project a successful?
Personally, I think he can, and he will. However, before we get ahead of our skis let’s not forget we still need to finish business in the transfer window. The Viktor Gyokeres deal is not done, and a contract has not been signed, even though transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has proclaimed Gyokeres “will be an Arsenal player.”
However, so far the new four signings are impressive. The club has added a goalkeeper (Kepa), two midfielders (Zubimendi and Norgaard) and a wingman (Madueke). I think we still need a defender (Mosquera), and a striker (Gyokeres) to complete a very aggressive, very expensive, yet very successful summer transfer window.
New sporting director Andrea Berta has lived up to his press clippings as an aggressive and shrewd transfer tactician. To this point, he has strengthened the club and has given Mikel Arteta more depth off the bench. Now he needs to complete at least two more signings and purge some dead weight on the roster to fulfill the summer’s goals.
It’s too early to make predictions, but if this squad becomes what we think it can become, I think Gooners everywhere will be excited for the season ahead. There is a lot to build off the 2024/2025 campaign. We can see the light at the head of the tunnel, however, the only real proof of success lies at the end of the season when a piece of silver or two is placed in the Arsenal trophy case.
The season is closing in, and soon we will see what is in store for the 2025/2026 season!
