It’s been a long time coming, but today we saw not only a win and a clean sheet, we also saw a complete team effort to defeat Manchester United 2-0!
Today, I don’t care about where we are in the table, or how long it’s been since Arsenal won a game. Today, it’s about seeing our team win, and win big against a big club!
Wow, what a first half! Who were those guys in red and white on the pitch? They played with spirit, with confidence, with desire and they played together. It was a remarkable performance to watch. Even Lee Dixon on NBCSN’s broadcast was speechless at times. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing from Arsenal today.
This solid team performance also rewarded Mikel Arteta with his first win as an Arsenal manager. He needs to be given a lot of credit for what we saw on the pitch today. He obviously lit a fuse under the entire squad. When was the last time we saw Mesut Ozil go after 50/50’s, or David Luiz be that vocal on the pitch? Down to a man, they all played their hearts out and did more than enough in the second half to preserve the win and get a shutout for Bernd Leno.
I mean, even Pepe scored a goal! Man, this was fun to watch!
For Gooners everywhere, thank you Arsenal, and thank you Mikel Arteta for getting 2020 off to a terrific start. 2019 was a miserable year for all of us, and now we can only hope the Gunners can keep this new found mojo going.
Next up is Leeds in the FA Cup, followed by Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.
HAPPY NEW YEAR GOONERS!
Cheers. Gunner1953
