Beware of the Foxes!

Arsenal’s next opponent is Leicester City on Sunday at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners defeated the Foxes 2-0 earlier this season and will look for another three points to further enhance their 4th place position in the Premier League.

Arsenal has won 4 league matches in a row, while Leicester City has won their last two, v Burnley and Leeds United.

Leicester City has been a surprising disappointment this season, currently standing 12th in the league with only 33 points. Manager Brendan Rodgers continues to have the support of his ownership and the team’s supporters, however, 12th place is not a position Rodger’s wants to be in at the end of the season.

The Gunners have two advantages over the Foxes on Sunday. First, the Gunners are playing at home in front of a fired-up group of Gooners, and second, Leicester City has a Europa Conference League Round of 16 match on Thursday v Rennes. As always, Mikel Arteta will take advantage of each and every little edge he can get.

For the Foxes, Jamie Vardy is again injured, however, they have solid reinforcements in James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans, while Kasper Schmeichel remains a solid presence in the front of goal.

On Arsenal’s side, Arteta will hope for the return of Emile Smith Rowe from the COVID list, while Takehiro Tomiyasu remains doubtful with an ongoing hip problem. Arsenal will probably need two or three goals to win this match, and I predict Alexandre Lacazette will break out of his current scoring slump to add at least one, if not two. The man is due, and this Sunday could be his day.

On the flip side, the Foxes have always been known as a very good counter-attack team, so Arteta will need to make sure his defensive back line remains alert and focussed the entire 90 minutes. Vardy will take advantage of any slip up the Gunners provide giving him just enough daylight to find an open shot on goal. Vardy needs to be a top priority for Ben White and Gabriel on Sunday.

Yes, there are 13 matches to go for Arsenal, and yes, a 4th place finish is a real possibility, however, each and every match will require the squad’s full attention and effort. The Foxes are not going to come to north London and roll over, they want those three points too, and they want to prove they are not done and dusted this season.
