After 16 matches in all competitions so far this season, here’s where the club stands…
Premier League – 5th – 18 points (+6)
Champions League – 12th – 7 points (+2)
Carabao Cup – Quarterfinals
This weekend’s Chelsea match at Stamford Bridge now looms as a very, very big game for the Arsenal Football Club here in November. The team is now on a two-match scoreless and winless streak that needs to come to a end quickly.
As you can see in the statistics listed at the top of this post, the Gunners are not performing as expected at this point of the season (minus the Carabao Cup). Plus, Arsenal has not had a significant win since defeating PSG 2-0 on October 1st.
The match on Wednesday at Inter Milan did have its up and down moments for the Gunners. The defense played well very well and held off a determined Inter club scoring from open play. However, the special teams failed to score from 14 corner kicks, while the offensive Arsenal produced 20 shot attempts while 4 shots of those shots on target while controlling the ball for 63% of the match.
The Inter Milan defense played well, their blue wall never allowed the Gunners to find any real answers for finding the back of the net.
Yes, the Gunners are in a slump that has to be answered, and soon, or Arsenal will be chasing the clubs on top of them for the rest of the season.
However, the good news from Wednesday was seeing Martin Odegaard make a cameo appearance late in the game. Hopefully, the captain will be ready for a full 90 minutes on Sunday. He has been sorely missed, and our offensive creativity has tremendously suffered.
Folks, it’s not time to panic just yet, but a poor performance this weekend could trigger some real destain, despair and questions among the Gooner Nation.
Let’s hope for blue skies and three points on Sunday!
Cheers.
