Just moments ago, Chelsea won their semi-final match and have now qualified for the Club World Cup Final v Palmeiras on Saturday. They could potentially add another prestigious trophy to their recent collection of hardware.
Look at the current list of active competitions for both teams. Chelsea is still playing in five competitions, Arsenal just one. Along with the Club World Cup, Chelsea are in the Carabao Cup final v Liverpool, they will face Luton Town in the FA Cup’s 5th round, they are currently in the Champions League Round of 16 v Lille and they also stand third on the Premier League table. On the flip side, Arsenal are 6th in the Premier League.
Chelsea are in the Club World Cup by way of winning last season’s Champions League title, their second. Arsenal have finish second in that competition just once, and have yet to win it.
Yes, their owner, Roman Abramovich, changes managers at the drop of a hat, however, its hard to argue with his recipe for success. The Russian billionaire continues to spend heavily on his club, and has since the day he became owner. On the flip side, Arsenal own Stan Kroenke is more conservative with his money, even though rumors say this coming summer’s spending will break Arsenal records in the transfer market. Time will tell.
Anyway, the whole point of this post is to express my frustration over the fact Chelsea is more success than Arsenal in recent times, and continues to be so. Manager Thomas Tuchel has done a really good job turning this club after Frank Lampard left. Mikel Arteta is also doing an admirable job with the Gunners, but when you look at these clubs side by side, Chelsea is head and should above our favorite north London club.
