There are many adjectives to describe Arsenal’s win over West Ham United on Monday. Awesome, resilient, dramatic, brilliant and amazing, just to name a few.
What a great team win for Mikel Arteta and his squad. I mean, what a performance coming off the very long World Cup break. The boys came out on fire with toal commitment and determination to take control of the match from the opening kick-off. Even though the first 45 minutes didn’t result in an Arsenal goal, the tone was set for a second half of domination, and that’s exactly what happened.
What we are now seeing is a club that is unified, cohesive and full of belief. Arteta has done a superb job getting this team this far in the three years he has been in charge. Sure, the Gunners will have a few clunkers ahead, but overall this team CAN win the Premier League if they maintain this form, and play with this determination. I mean even in the final minutes of the game, Eddie Nketiah was still making tackles and going after the ball.
And, speaking of Eddie, I firmly believe he will be more than capable of filling in for Gabriel Jesus during the Brazilian’s recovery. We shouldn’t expect Eddie to be Jesus. What we should expect of Eddie is to be himself. He proved on Monday he has more than enough talent to lead this Arsenal line, create havoc and score goals.
Plus, wasn’t it great to see Arsenal Wenger in attendance at the match? The crowd gave him a well deserved chant of recognition, and Arteta and his team had the chance to greet the former boss following the game. Let’s hope this is one of many appearances the Professor makes at Emirates Stadium in the future.
So, where do we go from here? Well, there’s a match at Brighton and Hove on Saturday, and then the January transfer window opens. I think the Gunners will sign at least two top-notch players to provide even more ammunition to their arsenal.
The Gunners are back, and the football in the days, weeks and months ahead will be great to watch by Gooners everywhere!
