Gunners gone from last season…where are they now?

The Arsenal Football Club has had considerable turnover since last season. Gone are some very familiar names that I thought we could see what they are up to now.
So, let’s begin…

Nacho Monreal – This is one of three guys on this list I really miss. Nacho played five seasons with the Gunners and was a fan favorite. Last summer he packed his bags and signed with the Spanish club Real Sociedad. This season he has made 15 appearances and scored one goal for his new club.

Aaron Ramsey – My second favorite on this list is the 29-year-old Welshman affectionately called Rambo. During his 11 years with the Gunners, he made 369 appearances and scored 64 goals. Last summer, Aaron left Arsenal on a free and signed with the Old Lady in Turin. Now, it’s rumored Ramsey might be on his way out of Juventus this coming summer. Where he will land, nobody knows.

Danny Welbeck – My third favorite is Danny Welbeck who is now playing for Watford. He has made only 6 appearances for the Hornets this season. Prior to that move, the English forward was with Arsenal for 5 seasons and made 88 appearances for the Gunners.

Alex Iwobi – This lad was always an enigma to me. He had lots of pace and skill but he never quite knew when to get rid of the ball once he got into the final third. Maybe that was his downfall at Arsenal. Anyway, Iwobi moved on to Premier League rival Everton last summer. He has made 17 appearance and scored once for Everton this season.

Petr Cech – After playing 4 seasons with Arsenal, the world-class goalkeeper retired and returned to Chelsea where he was appointed to the club’s coaching and backroom staff as a technical and performance advisor. Cech would also begin an ice hockey career as a goalie signing with second-tier British side Guildford Phoenix. He continues working for Chelsea as well.

Carl Jenkinson – After 7 seasons as an Arsenal player (3 on loan), Jenkinson signed a three-year deal with Championship club Nottingham Forest in August, 2019. He made only 4 appearances for Forest this season before a serious ankle injury forced him to the sidelines.

Laurent Koscielny – After 9 season with the Gunners, the former Arsenal captain left the north London club last summer and is now playing for French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux. His deal was rumored to be worth $5.9 million USD. He has appeared in 18 games for Bordeaux.

Stephan Lichsteiner – The Swiss played only one season for Arsenal before moving to German club FC Augsburg last summer. The 36-year-old has played in 14 matches this season for Augsburg.

Mohamed Elneny and Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Both of these men are still Arsenal players but are currently on loan. Elneny is currently playing for Besiktas in Turkey, while Mkhitaryan is with Roma in Italy. The future status of these guys with Arsenal is still unknown.

Cheers. Gunner1953
