The Gunners played a hard fought game against a very good Rapid Vienna side in Austria on Thursday. It was the Europa League opener for both clubs, and they gave both sides’ supporters plenty to enjoy during the 90 minutes.
Rapid Vienna stuck first after halftime, however, successive goals by David Luiz and Pierre-Emerick Aubamyeang sealed the deal, and the 3 points for Arsenal.
However, the biggest storyline of the match centered around Thomas Partey, who made his first full 90-minute appearance for the Gunners.
As advertised, Thomas glided over the pitch with fluidity and purpose. His stats were amazing, and he showed what Arsenal supporters can expect from this player in the matches ahead. What a great signing for Arteta and Edu!

“He looked really solid and really comfortable. I think he held the midfield by himself in the second half when we were a little more open and started to take more chances and attacking certain spaces with some players. But I think he was fantastic tonight and there is much more to come from him., but he needs his teammates around him. It’s not about him. We know that with the price that we paid for him and the profile of the player that he is, that he’s going to have a lot of people looking at him every single game. But this is about the structure we have as a team and the flow, the unity and the cohesion that we need in our team and he is one piece of that and hopefully he’s a big piece.ā

Also, it was great to see Aubameyang back on the score sheet after a four game dry spell. The captain came on in the second half as a substitute replacing Eddie Nketiah and got the game winner.
Nows, it’s back to London to prepare for league rivals Leicester City on sunday!
