If you had a ticket on Saturday at Emirates Stadium, or even if you watched the game on TV, what you experienced was pure magic, unbelievable ecstasy, total unbelievability and uncontrollable emotion.
If there was a roof on Emirates Stadium, it would have blown into orbit. I don’t believe I have ever seen such excitement and more passion inside a stadium, or on a field of play. What Reiss Nelson accomplished on Saturday will stay in the hearts and minds of Gooners for the rest of our lives. Well, maybe winning a Premier League title on our home pitch could possibly rival what we witnessed on Saturday.
First of all, congratulations to Reiss Nelson who came into the game, made an immediate impact by providing an assist to Ben White’s goal, then knocked home the winner just before the final whistle blew. In just 85 minutes of Premier League action this season, Nelson has scored 3 goals and provided two assists. The man, once almost let go by the Gunners, is now the hero of north London. I’m sure he didn’t have to buy his own dinner on Saturday night!
Besides the miraculous finish, let’s not forget how the lads got there. Down 0-2, their guts and determination to find the first and second goals never waned. The Gunners applied constant pressure on the Bournemouth defense. Arsenal put 31 shots on goal, nine on target. Goalkeeper Neto was forced into heavy action most of the match, but did make six saves.
As the clock wound down, it looked like the home team would have to settle for a draw and one point until Nelson found himself in the right place, at the right time. Boom! 3-2 to the Arsenal!
Hats off to every Arsenal player. They went after every loose ball, pressured Bournemouth into numerous mistakes and kept believing they could get the job done.
In my opinion, there were three Arsenal Men of the Match – Reiss Nelson, Thomas Partey and Aaron Ramsdale. Without a doubt, every Arsenal player could be included on this list for their diehard spirit and determination, but at the end of the day, these were the three that stood out to me. Remember too, Ramsdales huge save late in the game helped secure the win!
That was Saturday, and then there was Sunday, and a chance for Arsenal’s Women Team to bring home a trophy, and bring it home they did!
Arsenal 3 – Chelsea 1, and the team brought the FA Women’s Continental Cup trophy back to north London for the 6th time in club history!
This was the third meeting of the season between the two rivals, including Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Arsenal just last weekend in the Women’s FA Cup. This time, however, the tables were turned, and goals by Stina Blackenius, Kim Little and Rafaelle Souza were enough to seal the deal and see captains Leah Williamson and Kim Little lift the trophy.
Congratulations to head coach Jonas Eidevall and his staff for this terrific accomplishment.
Yes, it was quite a weekend for Gooner Nation!
Let’s keep them coming!
Cheers, and let’s not forget Liverpool’s 7-0 thrashing of Man United!
