With the news reported today that Arsenal has reached an agreement with Chelsea for Kai Havertz to move across London this summer, let’s take a quick look at his remarkable journey to the Emirates.
Kai Havertz, was a young German football prodigy, who took the world by storm with his gifted skills, remarkable technique, and maturity. Born on June 11, 1999, in Aachen, Germany, Havertz emerged as one of the bright talents in world football.
The German midfielder began his football journey at a young age, joining the youth academy of his local club, Alemannia Mariadorf. His talent soon caught the attention of scouts from Bayer Leverkusen, and he made the switch to the club’s youth system in 2010. It was there Havertz’s talent flourished, and he rapidly progressed through the ranks.
In 2016, at the age of just 17, Havertz made his first-team debut for Bayer Leverkusen, becoming the youngest player ever to represent the club in the Bundesliga. From that moment, Havertz’s star began to rise due to his exceptional vision, swift movement, and clinical finishing, he quickly established himself as one of the key players in Leverkusen’s squad.
At Bayer Leverkusen, Havertz made 188 appearances for the German club and scored 36 goals.
In 2020, he moved to Chelsea, where he also excelled. In his 91 appearances for the Blues, he scored 19 goals.
Havertz’s versatility on the field is one of his standout qualities. He is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, forward, or even as a winger. His ability to glide past defenders effortlessly, combined with his quick decision-making, made him a nightmare for opposition defenses. When at Chelsea Pundit Paul Merton called Havertz a “Rolls Royce footballer” stating, “Havertz is one of Chelsea’s best players. People forget he is class. He knits things together. He’s a Rolls-Royce, he glides round the pitch.”
In addition to his club success, Havertz has also made a significant impact on the international stage. He made his debut for the German national team in 2018 and has since represented his country in major tournaments, including the UEFA European Championship. Havertz has earned 36 caps and scored 13 goals for his national team.
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Havertz is known as both humble and professional.
At just 24 years old, Havertz’s potential seems limitless, and soon, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, Havertz should develop even further on his football journey and provide Arsenal supporters many thrills along the way.
Cheers.
