Okay fellow Gooners, we are halfway through the November international break, and so far so good. No injuries to report from our men on duty with their respective nations. Let’s hope for their safe and healthy travel back to London later this week!
Along with all of the Unai Emery discussion this past week, we also had some interesting quotes to digest. My personal favorite came from Arsenal legend Tony Adams who said: “Ozil is a cherry on the cake, but unfortunately at the moment Arsenal doesn’t have the cake.” Great quote…tough to top!
The Premiere League also delivered some interesting news. Beginning next month at all stadiums, the PL will provide information to supporters on how VAR is supposed to work. I hope that same information finds its way to the officials, both on the field and at VAR central. So far, the system has struggled to find consistency in how VAR decisions are being made.
Now back to the Gunners…
Next Saturday at 10 am EST, the Gunners’ Premiere League season returns and presents the squad with a busy run of games. First up, the Southampton Saints, a team that has historically given us all we can handle. To refresh our memories, last season Arsenal lost 2-3 in one of the 2 meetings with the club from the south coast of England. Currently, Southampton is in the relegation zone in 19th place. After 12 games, Southampton has 2 wins, 2 draws, and 8 defeats. On paper you would make the assumption a shaky start by the Saints would make them easy targets for Arsenal, however, it will take a solid performance to secure the 3 points. If Emery and his squad play up to their potential, this could the start of a good run of games. If not, the “Emery Must Go” chant will be in full voice across Arsenal Nation!
That’s about it today. There are a few good Euro Qualifiers to watch this afternoon, along with some grocery shopping as well.
The weekends just aren’t the same without the Gunners!
