A “supercomputer” is currently predicting the Gunners to finish 10th in the Premier League. I’m hopeful for a 7th place finish, however, no matter where Arsenal finishes this season, the summer transfer window will be one of the most important in the club’s recent history.
Mikel Arteta knows his tenure at the club could depend on the outcome of next season, so he understands how important this summer’s wheelings and dealings will be.
He told Football.London, “So we are trying to put a plan together to see with the resources that we have to see how much we want to improve, how we’re going to do it and at what cost. That has so many factors attached to it. It’s not just about one thing or about just an amount, it’s about a project that time-wise, how to build it is going to face some effort from everybody. We know that and the challenging moments that we are facing at the moment are making it even harder.”
However, with the recent shortfalls in the Arsenal’s revenue, Edu and Arteta will have a massive task to improve the squad, while keeping the bottom line from sinking lower. Also, club owner Stan Kroenke reported he needs to find an extra $500-million (USD) to pay for his new NFL stadium in Los Angeles.
Before Arsenal can end this horrible streak of not playing in the Champions League, and actually competing in the Premier League once again, numerous roster changes need to be made. The Gunners have been linked to the following players this summer: Odsonne Edouard, Tariq Lamptey, Ibrahim Konate, Houseem Aouar, Emiliano Buendia, Hakan Calhanoglu and Achraf Hakimi.
The club has several current players who could also be on their way out, which would provide some additional cash to be spend. The list could include: Alexandre Lacazette, Hector Bellerin, Matteo Guendouzi, Sead Kolasinac, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson, Lucas Torreira, David Luiz, Calum Chambers, Mo Elneny, Willian, Eddie Nketiah, Konstantinos Mavropano and Joe Willock.
The club needs more help at fullback, central defensive midfield and attacking midfield, but if Arsenal can hang on to Martin Odegaard, that greatly helps the midfield, however, if both Dani Ceballos and Odegaard return to Real Madrid, then are “midfield engine” is in crisis.
Our squad has grown too big, and too expensive, So this will be the summer to cut the dead weight and bring in more quality players.
If Edu and Arteta fail to make the right moves and the correct decisions, then the “supercomputer” will probably be picking us to finish 10th in the Premier League again next year at this time.
