Has this crossed your mind?
Believe it or not, one of these clubs will play in the Champions League next season.
The Premier League 16th place Manchester United will battle 17th place Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on May 21st in Bilbao, Spain. The winner automatically qualifies for next season’s Champions League.
On the other hand, due to the Premier League’s overall outstanding performances in this season European competitions, the league will qualify their top top five clubs from the final table as well.
So 1 through 5 will go, and either 16 or 17 will go through too.
I love the European football system, I really do, and I understand how it works, but the irony of this one has me scratching my head.
Thoughts?
