Then there are these players on the bubble: Alexandre Lacazette, Mo Elneny, Rob Holding, Cedric Soares, Granit Xhaka and Nicolas Pepe.
Also, you have the guys who will surely move on to other clubs: Bernd Leno, Mo Elneny, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Eddie Nketiah and Hector Bellerin.
Okay, let’s backtrack.
Bukayo Saka needs to be nailed down to a long, long-term contract. The wolves will be knocking at the door, so this should be priority #1. Right?
Then, there’s the question of whether William Saliba should return to Arsenal and be given a real shot this time around. I say YES. The young Frenchman has been remarkable this season in Serie A. So, it’s now or never for him in an Arsenal shirt.
Regarding the men on the bubble, Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta have some very difficult decisions to make. Let’s start with Lacazette. The striker is out of contract this summer, however, does his recent form and leadership earn him a new contract, or does he even want to stay? I strongly believe the Gunners need a new striker, or two. Attackers that are bigger, stronger and more capable of scoring goals. As much as I like Laca, I think this summer will be his time to move on.
As far as Nicolas Pepe and Rob Holding are concerned, if Arsenal can qualify for European football next season I would keep them both. Arsenal will need this caliber of bench players to provide Arteta with rotation options during a season filled with a heavy fixture schedule.
Then there’s Granit Xhaka and Cedric Soares. Surely, Roma will come knocking for Xhaka again this summer. I like Xhaka, even though the man can be reckless at times. Like Cedric, if Arsenal can find better players to fill their boots, then I think they should both go, too.
There you have my take on the 2022/2023 summer transfer window. The Gunners will have a lot of holes to fill, however, a Top 4 finish would be a huge incentive for top players to come to north London and play for Mikel Arteta.
