It was obvious Mikel Arteta showed flashes of disgust when his side failed to defend those moments properly.
However, with all of that aside, the Gunners have clawed their way into 4th place, just 5 points behind 3rd place Chelsea.
Mikel Arteta on the current league table, “To be fair, I don’t like to look at the table a lot because we have games in hand, we’re going to play different fixtures and I know the objective and it’s only one, to try and improve tomorrow on what we’ve done today and go into the next match and that’s it. I cannot control results and I cannot predict which matches we are going to win, draw or lose, it’s impossible. Arsenal still has matches against clubs currently in the Top 7 on the Premier League table. They are Chelsea, West Ham United, Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool. So, the sledding doesn’t get any easier. Every match, every point and every touch of the ball will have great importance over the final 13-match run-in for this season, and once Takehiro Tomiyasu and Emile Smith Rowe recover, and are fit to contribute, the Gunners will be even stronger, and much deeper.
If Arsenal can maintain the recent success they have had over the past four matches, there should be a lot of opportunity to finish in the Top 4 or even higher. Whatever teams get hot and stay hot through May will be the teams that qualify for next season’s European competitions. Currently, the clubs 3rd through 8th are all in the best position to win one of those spots.
And by the way, my Man of the Match on Sunday was Bukayo Saka. The young Gunner contributed an assist and a goal v Watford, and has now been involved in 9 goals in his last 10 league appearances!
