We have been waiting since March 17th for the Gunners to return to action, and man are we disappointed.
I’m hoping we can blame this on an international break hangover, however, the truth is Arsenal failed to show-up at Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace.
Obviously, the club was without its two regular fullbacks, Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu, plus Bukayo Saka was coming off COVID, however, the blame and excuses have to end there.
The Gunners first half performance was extremely hard to watch. Their play was just plain sloppy. End of story.
The second half improved once Mikel Arteta re-arranged his personnel and went to an all-out attacking unit. Unfortunately, little changed, and the end result was Crystal Palace 3 – Arsenal 0.
I am extremely disappointed with the players and coaching staff for this performance. A club that is vying for Champions League football can not afford matches like this one. Why the Gunners were not more energized to play this match is beyond me. There is so much on the line, and so very little margin for error.
Let’s hope this defeat is a wake-up call for the entire club.
So, the squad has just five days to regroup and to recover from this disastrous performance. Up next, Brighton and Hove Albion, another team that will surely give the Gunners everything they can handle.
Since Arsenal needed a win or a draw to regain 4th place from Tottenham Hotspur today, we will now have to wait until the weekend to move back on top of our north London neighbors.
